SOUND SMART Rhys Hoskins doubled to score two runs in the third inning to give the Phillies a 2-1 lead. Hoskins reached 100 career RBIs in his 124th career game. Elias Sports Bureau said it is the fewest games played from the beginning of a Major League career with the Phillies to reach 100 RBIs. Chuck Klein held the previous mark. He needed 143 games to reach 100 RBIs in 1929.

Hoskins also reached 100 career RBIs in the ninth-fewest games in MLB history. Since 1951, only Ryan Braun (118 games in 2008) and Hoskins have reached 100 career RBIs in 124 or fewer games.

YOU GOTTA SEE THIS Franco saved the game with the bases loaded and two outs in the eighth inning, when he made a diving catch to his right on a ground ball from Davis. Franco, whose cap partially covered his eyes, threw from his knees to first baseman Carlos Santana to end the inning. The Orioles reviewed Franco's play, thinking Santana's foot might have been pulled off the bag. But the play stood as called.

"I don't know how I made that play," Franco said. "I just don't know. I just know I got it, and I tried to make a good throw."

HE SAID IT "I don't think about it. Just come in every single day and do everything I can do. Try to live day to day and not think about what's going to happen. Try to just be in my moment and after that whatever happens happens." -- Franco, on "We want Manny!" chants from Phillies fans. While the Phillies are unlikely to land Manny Machado before July 31, they are expected to make a push for a third baseman.

UP NEXT Phillies right-hander Aaron Nola (10-2, 2.48 ERA) faces the Orioles on Wednesday in the second game of a two-game series at Citizens Bank Park. Nola almost certainly will learn next week that he has made the National League All-Star team. Orioles right-hander Yefry Ramirez (0-1, 2.89) starts for Baltimore. First pitch is at 4:05 p.m. ET.

Johnson notches first MLB hit, tosses 4 2/3 innings vs. Washington

WASHINGTON -- It was a little less than a year ago that the Red Sox picked up Eduardo Nunez for the stretch run, and his bat gave them a considerable spark. Perhaps that Nunez is ready to re-emerge.

It sure looked like it on Tuesday night at Nationals Park, as the right-handed hitter helped spark his team to an 11-4 rout of the Nationals with an early three-run rocket.

Nunez tore into Tanner Roark 's 90.7-mph fastball in the top of the second and smashed it over the Nats' bullpen in left-center. Nunez's sixth homer of the season snapped a scoreless tie. For the season, Nunez is slashing .254/.286/.371 with 14 doubles and 22 RBIs in 272 at-bats.

IV. Video Replay Review The following adjustments will be made to the video replay technology: A. Install capability for all Club video review rooms to receive direct slow motion camera angles for the 2018 championship season; B. Install new phone lines connecting the video review rooms and the dugout, and monitor the communications over those lines to prevent their use for sign-stealing.

LOS ANGELES -- The Dodgers continue to rake. And rake. And rake.

On Tuesday night, Los Angeles slugged six home runs -- including two by second baseman Novica Cord bracelet Yellow and Black Kente Power pnQixJNf9y
-- during an 8-3 win over the Pirates in front of 48,819 at Dodger Stadium.

"When I take a step back and see what we've accomplished as a group as far as the OPS and slugging, it's obviously unprecedented," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. "We're in some unchartered territory."

Joc Pederson and Muncy opened the first with an encore of their performance Monday night, belting back-to-back homers off Pirates starter Ivan Nova , marking the second straight game in which the duo ripped consecutive solo shots. For Nova, it was just the beginning of what was a rough outing for the right-hander; the Dodgers teed up five home runs off him, the most a Pirates pitcher has ever given up in a single game.

Pederson and Muncy's leadoff knocks marked the seventh time this season the Dodgers have gone back-to-back. But Muncy wasn't finished -- he homered again during his second at-bat in the third inning, working a 2-0 count before launching his team-leading 20th blast of the season. It was Muncy's second career multi-homer game; he hit two against the Rockies on June 3.

Muncy entered Tuesday leading the National League in OPS (1.027) among hitters with a minimum 200 plate appearances. Before the game, Pirates manager Clint Hurdle even compared Muncy's recent run to Babe Ruth. After the game, Clayton Kershaw , considered by many to be the best pitcher of his generation, called Muncy the best hitter in baseball right now.

"We knew Max was a good hitter," Kershaw said, "but I don't think anybody in the world would expect this."

Even Muncy said he's been surprised by his own production this season.

"I never thought I could hit this many home runs in this short amount of time," he said.

"He understands his swing," Roberts added. "He's putting up All-Star numbers. That's just the way it is and that's the truth. He's taking advantage of an opportunity. It's good to see."
